How wrong you are, Ms. Zundel.

The Salt Lake Tribune recently published an opinion piece by a student from the University of Utah supporting an increase in the minimum wage. I'm gathering this student hasn't stayed up during economics classes as the piece is riddled with incomplete information, misconceptions, and just plain bad math.

The Strange News: Squirrels on Crack

This is the kind of stuff you just can't make up. Squirrels in England have been digging up bags of crack hidden in gardens and getting addicted to the stuff. They then exhibit aggressive behavior as they get addicted and go after people in search in everyone's favorite white powder. Is it any wonder […]

Tribune: Why are these people on my ballot?

The Tribune's editorial board talks some sense in asking why it is we're expected to vote for a bunch of administrative offices. I agree: offices like Clerk, Treasurer, Surveyor, Assessor, and so on don't require an election. The mayor and county council can figure out who's good for the job and then fire them […]

The Race for Senate District 9 Goes Negative

This week marked an unpleasant turn in the race for Senate District 9: negative campaigning. It kicked off with a flier from Trisha Beck blasting her opponent, Wayne Niederhauser, for outspending her by a margin of almost 7-to-1. She fails to mention, however, that Niederhauser is spending about what's average for a seat in the […]

New Website Features: Sociable, E-mail Obfuscator

Most of you probably noticed the Digg This button that shows up a few days ago and now notice that it's been replaced with a bunch of little icons. They represent various social bookmarking websites where you can share blog posts or other web pages that you like. There will, in the future, also […]

We watched The Phantom of the Opera movie tonight

This was my first time watching the movie and Jesse's first experience with the storyline in any way, shape or form. Two direct Jesse quotes that I love:
"I didn't know Andrew Lloyd Webber was involved in this!" This beauty came out in the opening credits. Awesome. And also…
"Fickle women are dumb."
Indeed.

Whole Foods is coming to Utah!

I can totally get excited about something like this, even if they are going to be way downtown. Wherefore art thou, Trader Joe's?

Pete Ashdown Hits It on the Head

After being spurned by the Tribune's endorsement of Hatch and their subsequent explanation that they don't like their choice, Pete Ashdown had a few choice words for them. Well met.
And now… the Top Ten Reasons Why the Tribune Endorsed Hatch.

It’s still good! It’s still good! Part 2: Government Assistance

A hallmark of left-wing politics has been an ever-expansive system of government assistance. These encompass programs such as welfare, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. The purpose behind these programs is noble enough: help those who cannot help themselves. They have proven, however, to not be financially viable in the long term and have not been […]

I’ll be speaking to the Legislature in a couple of weeks.

I've mentioned a few times before that I'm running a project called Free UTOPIA to get UTOPIA legalized for my area of town. Well, now comes the real challenge: I'm presenting to the Utah Technology Commission on November 15th at 5PM in room W110 of the capitol building to make my case. I've […]
