Ready, set… boredom (PLUS, a shameless plug)

So tonight was my first night “out on the floor” as they say in cosmetology school. Out of the classroom, and into the salon where I will now perform a variety of heavily supervised services on brave individuals too cheap to go to a real salon. Actually, I wish I would have known that you could go to a hair school and get your hair done. I really had no idea. I figure a lot of the time it probably turns out better than it would if you were going to a salon. At the salon, no one is supervising your stylist, checking the cut, etc. So I actually think it’s a really good idea to go to a school (provided it’s a good one) to get your hair done. In fact, Monday night (as kind of a “welcome to the floor” surprise) we were given a free service night where we got to have anything we wanted to have done for free. I got my hair cut and colored and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been more pleased with a cut or a color. Observe:

So anyway, I was all nervous to be out on the floor tonight for the first time. My stomach was in total knots as I heard my name over the intercom when my first client was assigned to me. Turned out to just be a brow wax and tint which I am super comfortable with, so I was way relieved. And then? Total and complete boredom. That was my ONLY client of the evening. Which is going to be sort of a problem. Not only will I be bored out of my skull, but I’ve made a tiny little goal (that is mostly out of my control anyway) to get $10 in tips a night. That doesn’t sound like much, but my plan is to save up all of my tips and use the money for the Boston trip. Little by little, I know it will add up and get us what we need. I’ve already got almost $50 saved up (I got a few tips while doing services before technically being out on the floor) which is almost enough for two nights at the hospital’s inn. Did I tell you about that? Apparently, the hospital has an inn that is for family members of patients and it’s only $30/night. I’m not sure yet how long our trip will be, but Liam will likely have to be in the hospital for a week and then they’ll want to do followups and such so it’ll likely be one long, expensive trip.

And so… in closing, please make appointments at the school with me or send people my way. I promise to do a good job. And if I don’t, I promise that my instructor will fix it before you leave. 😀

If I could, I would TOTALLY have you rip the hair out of my arms.

    Your hair looks great!!!

  3. I used to visit the beauty school in Provo for my haircuts. They always cut my hair exactly the way I told them. No arguing. No nodding in agreement and then doing exactly the opposite. Just a great cut every time. And cheap too! The only drawback was that it took 3 times as long as a regular cut. Totally worth the $5 though. And they always threw in a free scalp massage.

Yeah, that’s true. A school is definitely not the place to go if you’re in a hurry.

You could cut my hair. I would give you a big tip and with my hair it would not take long. Dad

PS on another note please cash my stinking $200 check, you’re affecting my bookkeeping

  7. I think I am going to have you dye my hair! Sweet! Like maybe a darkish red, coca cola almost. With copper highlight weave. How much would that be?
