The First Fruits
It's barely even a mouthful, but oh so good. I'm hoping that some of the tiny berries will give way to larger ones later in the season.

Work-related travel had me spending the latter half of the week in the Lone Star State, a river away from both a foreign country and another state. El Paso looks a lot like pretty much any other town in any other border state, a dry desert with equally spare-looking mountains. True to form, it was […]

We had a little BBQ with my brother's family yesterday and I'm not too humble to admit that my favorite part was this pie that I made. Soooo good! It really is a great summer treat. It's super easy to make and if you buy the crust it requires no baking! (This is a MAJOR […]

Last week, legislators across the country decided to take part in the Food Stamp Challenge, a project to have elected officials live on the same budget as a person on food stamps for a week. About a dozen Utah civic leaders and elected officials decided to take the challenge and see how they'd do. […]

Since we've been budgeting, I've been paying real close attention to coupons that come in the mail. The other day, we got a coupon for a free movie rental (no strings attached) at Hollywood Video. That was good, but then we got a postcard in the mail addressed to my dad (Thanks, Dad!) for a […]

Shauna and I spent the weekend with my mom at Zion National Park for Mother's Day. The park more-or-less centers around the small town of Springdale just outside of the park's entrance. It's a very rural town split between touristy places (shops, restaurants, hotels and bed and breakfasts) and small ranches with pastures of […]

Last night, I asked Shauna for a sip of her Cherry Pepsi. She obliged and I remarked that, while it's good, I like Cherry Coke better. According to her, this means I'm a communist.
That flavor you're now tasting is irony.

Taking an honest look at your finances and spending habits is a tricky business. But we realized it must be done. You see, it's completely incomprehensible to me how the two of us, who earn decent livings, live in a modest house (Our neighborhood, White City, is affectionately referred to by many as "White Trash […]

Please, don't ask me why we bought this. I think we must've been on a high from buying too many Lean Cuisines and indulging on cheese made from 2% milk. After a bender like that, trying out a Fat Free butter-like substance seems like something worth a shot. Lemme tell you folks, it's not.
We tried […]
