Just what *do* you say to a crazy person?

Have you ever read something so fantastic, so blatantly wrong and full of lies that you could only sit there with a bemused "I can't believe someone would say that" look on your face? I had such an experience tonight after reading a rant against Mitt Romney that turned into one of the more outrageous anti-Mormon diatribes I've ever read. It doesn't seem to be much of a surprise that this kind of thing would be written by Roseanne Barr, the queen of crude and rude humor for as long as I can remember.

Most of the stuff is just laughable. She claims we believe in child marriages, killing all of the Jews to bring back Christ, and that most of us are active members of the Nazi Party and/or Aryan Nation. I gotta wonder if she's been mixing and matching medications as these kinds of sensationalist rants are dismissed as the rantings of a crazy person by anyone with an ounce of sense. (That's not too far off the mark; she's had long-time struggles with mental illness.)

And then… you see people agreeing with her lunacy. It's hard to believe anyone would buy into that kind of conspiracy theorist crazy talk concerning any group. Fortunately, there are plenty of us who see the accusations for what they are: the rantings of someone who missed more than a few doses of her valium.

Roseanne’s just bitter because she grew up in Utah and didn’t like the mormons here. She sings a totally different story of course when she comes here campaigning for John Kerry (when she joined michael moore at UVSC).

WOW. It doesn’t really surprise me she’d say that kind of stuff, but it does surprise me that people would think of her as a credible source. YIKES.

After reading her post, I can only come up with one inaccuracy. we put the fun in fundamentalism, not the mental in fundamentalism.

The internet attracts a lot of crazies, just look at the linkup politics boards. All you can do is laugh, shrug it off, and not let your emotions get the best of you. Just reading the replies, its clear that these people are a little unhinged.

    Jesse,

I’ve seen a lot of that kind of garbage, and not just on the internet, but creeping into more mainstream news sources. Take the mud being thrown at Barak Obama by Insight magazine, taken up by FoxNews, that he allegedly went to school at a madrassa in Indonesia when he was six years old. Neither Insight nor FoxNews actually investigated the claim (Insight would not, of course, because they started the lie), and now when the story was debunked by good old fashioned investigating, FoxNews won’t let go of the lie.

I think we’re going to see far worse things the more time goes by.

Holy cow! Those are some messed up people! It’s an illustration of how people will swallow just about any lie as long as there’s a hair of observable truth in it.

My favorite is how she kept saying “They belive…”. Like she did research on our beliefs or something.

    Wow.

This kind of stuff reveals far more about the author and her supporters than it does about those that are the object of their criticisms.

I’m sorry, give me one second while I pick my jaw up off the ground. Anyone that would believe all that junk is nuts! Then again when I lived in Florida I did right a few misconceptions, but nothing like this.

I find it sad, and actually find it calms me in my convictions. Bet she didn’t mean to have that effect. ha ha.

You say Nazi as though it’s a bad thing.

Roseanne Barr and Michael Moore should get married.
