Social Blunder #84

A voice mail is not the place to start monologuing. Leaving me a 2-minute message to say what could be said in 20 seconds means it'll take that much longer for me to call you back (plus the time to ridicule you on my blog).

Hey Jesse, it’s Jason. I was going to leave this message on your blog, but I forgot what I was going to say. Don’t you hate it when you call and forget? Man, I do. It’s like you think and think and think, and still – nothing! So whenever you get this, feel free to get back with me and we can go over whatever it was I was going to go over with you, ya know? Man, Twizzlers are good aren’t they? They just fill your mouth with flav…. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

After 30 seconds, I delete the message and call the person back.

I tend to just ignore the voicemail, and call the person back if I think I want to talk to them. Then, when I get about 10 of them piled up, I go in and delete them quickly. I abhor voicemail! If people would use it properly, that would be ok. But “hey, it’s so-and-so, call me back” probably doesn’t need to be left. I know you called. I’ll call ya back. If it’s important “hey, it’s so-and-so, call me back ASAP, I think I found your dream job”, is probably ok.

Umm…sorry for the rant. But, yeah, I feel your pain. 🙂

give me a vmail any time over an email. At least you can tell if a person is ticked at you through the message. There is a real problem in emails getting across the emotion or lack there of. Besides with vmail it is much easier to get the messages quickly with out having to have the latest whup-ti-do PDA gadgetry. The madening thing is when people hide behind vmail as nothing is better for getting things resolved then communicating interactively.
