Looks like it's not her fault.

We've had a lot of problems with Annabelle peeing in places she's not supposed to, and it's not limited to the house. As noted previously, she's peed on various dog beds already. She's even had problems with wetting her kennel, something dogs just aren't supposed to do. We've been taking her outside every 15-20 minutes when we're home, I've been coming home twice during the day to let her out, and we've been getting up twice in the middle of the night to let her out. Even with all of this, she'd still have accidents in the house. Needless to say, we were getting pretty frustrated with her because puppies just aren't supposed to do these things.

Since Chloe needed some booster shots anyway, I made an appointment for Annabelle to see the vet as well. As always, Chloe didn't make a peep when getting her shots. Annabelle, on the other hand, was the world's biggest wuss. The vet thought it was a urinary infection, so he needed a urine sample. All they had to do was hold her still while she peed. From the noise she was making, you would think they had stuck the world's largest needle directly into her bladder. I could hear her from several rooms away.

Well, the results showed that she has an infection, and we've got her on a round of antibiotics. Hopefully this will solve her terrible potty problems (because, seriously, we're borderline psychotics at this point). I've very glad that, just like Chloe, she eats pills like they're treats, so we don't have to hide them in anything or trick her into taking them. All we have to do is call it a treat and drop it in her food bowl to get her to devour it.

We both feel kind of bad now that we had been getting so upset with her peeing all over the place. (As anyone who's had a bladder infection can tell you, holding it is not an option.) Both of us had presumed she was just being defiant since she's shown a lot of other dominant behaviors. Not so say she isn't a little squirt in other areas (no pun intended), but at least we're likely to get this problem beaten.

In other good news, I've gotten her to use her doggie door several times now to go outside and potty. We're totally psyched about that. How many 8-week-old puppies use a doggie door to potty outside? Answer: not many. If we can get her mostly housebroken by the end of the month, I'll be totally happy.

Glad to hear that she has what looks to be an easily treatable problem.

Very nice, bro. Now only if I could stop peeing my doggie beds.

Oh poor little girl! UTIs are no fun for ANY species. Hope things go better now!

You know what I did? I got one of those christmas bell decorations that hand on a door. So everytime I took the dog out I made her ring the bell with her nose and gave her a piece of hotdog and THEN took her outside until she did her business. Pretty soon she was just ringing the bell to go outside.

Just stick with it. She’ll come around
