Excessive is always good

Heard in the office today:

"How are you today?"

"Super!"

"Oh, good!"

"I was going to say 'superfluous'…"

Impressed "Oooooh's" and "Ahhh's"

"… But then I knew someone would ask me what it meant and I don't exactly know the definition. I know it's a GOOD THING though."

I had a friend who used to say he was “effervescent”. I pointed out that Alka-Seltzer has that same quality and asked if he foamed when he came into contact with water.

    His response? “Sometimes.”

    I like that story.

    Shauna, that’s awesome.

Jesse, don’t hate but there’s two definitions of effervescent. The alka seltzer one, and another one that means animated or lively…(sorry, I’m a word geek).

  5. Shauna (the other one) says:

    I’m effervescent *and* superfluous.

  6. Jesse says:

Superfluously effervescent? That’d be a great name for a band.

  7. Shauna says:

    No it wouldn’t.

But maybe you could just call it “Superfluous”… after all, it’s a good thing. Like, EXTRA super. That’s what it means. There’s “super” and then “Super-fluous”. It’s like famous and IN-famous. Then once you’re extra famous, people would call you the IN-famous Super-fluous. Extra famous, extra super. You can’t lose there.

lol. Shauna, I had to read your comment a couple of times before I caught the tongue-in-cheek. (Hey, it’s late.) Perhaps you might suggest your coworker try “superlative” …

For anyone looking for a dictionary, may I suggest you never tell your boss you’re superfluous.
